Collet Care Guidelines
Collet Maintenance is one of the key common causes of inadequate tool life or breakage. There are many links in the chain that make up this critical tool holding system called a collet. The minor amount of time used to often examine and clean the collet system, will be too much offset by improved output and a decrease in overall machining expenditures.
If collet may not be seated right with the locking nut and when you tighten it, there may be possibility of damaging the collet
Take additional care at the time of usage, proper and consistent tightening by using a torque wrench over tightening of collets leads damage to the collet and cause issues.
With regards to cleaning of collets, compressed air and a soft cloth should be enough. Just sponge them free of dust at the time of every tool change.
